Network World Names Skytap a Top Ten Start-Up to Watch in 2009

SEATTLE, Wash. – January 8, 2009 – Skytap, Inc., the leading provider of cloud-based virtual lab solutions, today announced it was featured as a Top Start-Up to Watch in Network World’s Outlook ’09 report. The only cloud computing company included in the feature, Skytap was selected based on its ability to provide more extensive lab-testing options than competitive platforms, the flexibility of its solution and the strong track record of its leadership team.

According to John Bass, a Network World tester and technical director for Centennial Networking Labs at North Carolina State University, “Skytap offers more lab-testing options than existing cloud-computing services such as Amazon.com’s Elastic Compute Cloud. With EC2, it’s more like ‘here are the things you can do’. With Skytap, you have the ability to modify the images that run on the virtual machines. You can change the browser and the operating system parameters. It’s much more flexible.”

Skytap’s Virtual Lab platform allows companies to run their existing applications, virtual machines and systems unchanged on industry-standard platforms in the cloud. Skytap helps companies realize the benefit of cloud economics by migrating costly and underutilized environments to the cloud such as application development testing, staging and pre-production, training, and IT prototyping. This approach provides a low-risk adoption path to cloud computing, and delivers the highest level of ROI as these dynamic environments fluctuate and management costs escalate.

“Recognition by Network World as a Top Start-Up to Watch speaks to the caliber of our Virtual Lab solution and the company’s ability to successfully capitalize on the growing cloud computing market,” said Scott Roza, CEO of Skytap. “By incorporating cloud computing into their IT strategies, our customers have significantly driven down capital and operational costs, and benefited from increased productivity and improved responsiveness to business demands.”
