Skytap invited to present cloud automation capabilities at Google I/0 2010 Developer Sandbox

SEATTLE, WASH. – May 19, 2010 – Skytap Inc., the leading provider of self-service cloud automation solutions, today announced that it has been invited by Google to demo the Skytap Cloud as part of The Developer Sandbox at Google I/O 2010, which will be held May 19-20, 2010 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

As the cloud continues to prove itself as the most scalable and cost-effective way to build and deploy applications, Skytap is becoming one of the most popular solutions for enterprise developers. During the event, Skytap will demonstrate how enterprises can run thousands of existing applications in the cloud without requiring any code or architectural changes, while ensuring that IT security and policies remain intact. Developers interested in a trial of the Skytap Cloud can visit Skytap’s booth in The Developer Sandbox – Enterprise section.

“As an early pioneer in the cloud market, Skytap embraces Google’s cloud computing vision,” said Sundar Raghavan, chief product and marketing officer at Skytap. “By enabling developers to bring thousands of existing enterprise applications to the cloud and run them in conjunction with Google Apps, we are accelerating the enterprise adoption of the cloud model. Google’s invitation to demo Skytap in The Developer Sandbox is a reflection of the productivity benefits we bring to the developer community, including cost reductions upwards of 70%.”

Recently, Skytap announced Google Apps integration using OpenID, the availability of the Skytap Cloud via the Google Apps Marketplace™, and new network automation capabilities to support complex enterprise applications.

Network Automation – Skytap’s new network automation capabilities allow developers to create complex multi-tier networking topologies in the cloud. Developers can move existing enterprise applications that require N-tier security and clustering and fail-over support to the cloud with point-and-click ease. Through these capabilities, Skytap creates cloud environments that behave as an extension of an enterprise data center with configurable network and security policies. In the same way data center automation transformed physical data center management, Skytap’s network automation capabilities transform the way enterprise applications are deployed in the cloud.

OpenID Authentication – Through this integration, Google Apps customers can use their existing Google credentials as a single sign-on mechanism, and access their Skytap Cloud environments running complex enterprise applications within the context of Google Apps.

Skytap can be used in conjunction with Google Apps for a broad range of use cases including:

  • Development and test environments for application developers and testers
  • Software sales demonstrations for sales engineers
  • ERP and custom application migration for IT professionals
  • Virtual training and certification for trainers

For example, application developers and testers can move enterprise resource (ERP) applications to the Skytap Cloud without any code changes, migrate to a newer version of the application, create application snapshots to conduct usability studies, and maintain project milestones in Google Calendar™. They can also multi-task between Skytap and Google Docs™ to de-bug, track, take notes and collaborate with business analysts. A sales engineer can instantly toggle between an enterprise application demo running in the Skytap Cloud to a Google Calendar application that contains necessary information to complete a task. Training managers can use Google Apps to create a learning portal and provide access to a Skytap Cloud training environment for enterprise applications, while shifting between applications like Google Calendar which can be used for scheduling.
