New Windows 8 Enterprise x64 and Windows Server 2012 Templates

We recently added a couple of new templates to the Skytap Cloud public template library.

The first template is a new Windows 8 Enterprise x64. This is an x64 template to go along with our Windows 8 32-bit template. So while you may have been waiting around to see what’s what before trying Windows 8, now is as good a time as ever. In Skytap Cloud you have access to both a 32-bit and 64-bit template with all the bells and whistles. Just remember, when you fire these bad boys up and log in, you are going to get the new Windows Start screen with the tiles instead of the old Windows desktop. Oh, and once you get to desktop mode, there isn’t a start menu anymore. Hover your mouse over either side of the screen to get other menus to pop up. For additional information, head over to the Microsoft Windows 8 website.

The second template is a new Windows Server 2012. Windows Server 2012 is the latest server version of Windows, replacing Windows 2008 R2. Since Windows Server 2012 was only released in a 64-bit version, we’ll only have one template for this new operating system. There have been a lot of changes with Windows Server 2012, including many new features around cloud computing and virtualization. In addition, there is both a server (command-line based install) and a desktop server version that don’t require a re-install to switch between the two. You can find more information on the Windows Server 2012 website.

So, if you’ve been wondering what Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 look like—and how you are going to use them—log in to Skytap Cloud and give these templates a test drive.

As always, if you have any questions about our templates, don’t hesitate to get in touch with Skytap Support or your Skytap representative.

Until next time,

Matt
